What the film covers

The documentary walks the viewer through the landmarks that define Bhaun: the Hindu temples — several of them attributed to Hanuman — with their distinctive painted panels of peacocks, parrots and fish; the great havelis such as the Marri and the Janj Ghar, with their carved wooden balconies; the old railway station; and the ancient banyan trees and ponds. It situates Bhaun as one of the oldest settlements of the Salt Range and Chakwal district, a town that was once a thriving Hindu trading mandi before Partition.

Why it matters

Much of what the camera records is now at risk. Films like this one are an important part of preserving the memory of Bhaun — documenting buildings and traditions that may not survive another generation of neglect. We share it here so that residents, the diaspora and visitors alike can see for themselves why this heritage is worth saving.
